Advanced Space Technologies

U.S. national security increasingly depends on emerging space capabilities—like satellite servicing, in-space manufacturing, and situational awareness systems—that are now being developed more by startups than by traditional government contractors. These advanced space technologies, once the exclusive domain of federal agencies, are being tested and deployed faster and cheaper by private companies. However, these ventures face challenges, including export control hurdles and profitability risks in markets still dominated by free public services. The report calls for targeted government investment to ensure the U.S. remains a space leader, both commercially and strategically.
