How to Be Clear During COVID-19 : Part 1

Complexity does not communicate authority.covid-19 plain language

Right now, we need to use the clearest language possible to help people make the right decisions for their health. When using an unfamiliar term, replace it with plain language or include an explanation.

For example:

Instead of “novel strain”
Use “a new type of virus”
And provide an explanation: “Coronaviruses have been around for centuries, but COVID-19 is a novel strain or a new type of the virus.”
See more uses of COVID-19 plain language in our cheat sheet. Feel free to share it with your team.
