Marburg Virus Disease (MVD)

Marburg virus disease (MVD) spreads from Egyptian rousette bats to humans and non-human primates, with transmission occurring through the bats’ saliva, urine, and feces. After crossing over to humans, it can spread further through direct contact with an infected person. Symptoms typically begin 2 to 21 days after infection, ranging from fever and muscle aches to severe complications like liver failure and multi-organ dysfunction. Travelers from affected areas should monitor their health for 21 days, as there are currently no approved vaccines or treatments for MVD.
